A Strong Sense of Fashion

WHOTina Fey

SHOW The Golden Globe Awards — she, along with Amy Poehler, is a host for the second consecutive year — and “30 Rock.”

BACKGROUND She is known for her work on “Saturday Night Live” (her rendition of Sarah Palin, for example) and also for comedic hits like “30 Rock,” “Mean Girls” and “Bossypants,” a best-selling autobiography. Ms. Fey, 43, has a shelf full of accolades, including Emmy, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and Writers Guild awards.

BEHIND THE SCENES She has been working with Cristina Ehrlich, who also styles Amy Adams and Allison Williams, for the last four years.

HER LOOKS “Tina is a petite woman, and it’s all about how things fit her,” Ms. Ehrlich said. “We do try to mix it up, but it’s always from the mentality of a corseted feel or a fit that shows off her curves. We err on the side of sexy.”

Appreciate, for example, the sweetheart strapless neckline of the embroidered L’Wren Scott dress in Chantilly lace Ms. Fey wore last year to the Golden Globes. (For this year’s Globes wardrobe, expect several outfits from a single designer, said Ms. Ehrlich, who is “a big believer of one-stop shopping.”) She also went strapless with a black belted style by Oscar de la Renta to the Screen Actors Guild awards a couple of weeks later.

With awards season behind her, Ms. Fey chose sleek separates in March, like a black leather shell with relaxed peplum and houndstooth skirt, both by J. Mendel, for the New York premiere of “Admission.” “We were playing with textures,” Ms. Ehrlich said. “There is also something about Tina and all her choices that has a real ‘50s feel to it, and you can see that here.” The peplum popped up again with Oscar de la Renta (“a little black dress that’s got an Audrey style to it,” Ms. Ehrlich said) for a “30 Rock” event the same month.

By September, Ms. Fey was ready for a jolt of color, wearing a showstopping Narciso Rodriguez gown in vivid cobalt to the Emmys. “She really wanted to go with a designer she hadn’t worn before,” Ms. Ehrlich said. “He’s not necessarily your corseting type of guy, but he has such precision with line. We were very specific on where we wanted the straps, like a halter.”

But she didn’t stay away from Mr. de la Renta long, wearing his tea-length frock in black lace in October at the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor gala. “Lace reads beautifully on Tina,” Ms. Ehrlich said. “It can be a tricky fabric, sometimes fusty, but it’s fresh and feminine on her. She loves a lace sleeve.” There was a hint of lace, as well, in the black and white print Carolina Herrera cocktail number she wore to the American Museum of Natural History gala the next month.

For something of a palate cleanser, Ms. Fey rounded out the year in cargo pants and New Balance sneakers at an Off Broadway opening night party (“That’s totally her style and her real New York street look,” Ms. Ehrlich said), and black leather leggings by J Brand, an Alexander Wang silk blouse and an Oscar de la Renta car coat at the “Anchorman 2” premiere. “We have so many gowns coming up, it was a nice change,” Ms. Ehrlich said. “Besides, the thing about Tina is that her fashion is going to be strong, but her humor is going to be stronger.” BEE SHAPIRO

The boho babe had so much fun on set, even spray-painting one of the backdrops used in the campaign — what a personal touch! “I really love Bongo because their clothes are super stylish and fashion forward. Their jeans make everyone look amazing,” Vanessa said in a statement released by the brand.

Vanessa has always had an affinity for Bongo — in fact, in September 2013 she attended The Carrie Diaries premiere party in NYC, where she rocked a leopard crop top from the brand!

Bongo Campaign Girls:

The star joins the ranks of former Bongo gals Kim Kardashian, Nicole Richie, Rachel Bilson, Lucy Hale, and her Spring Breakers co-star, Ashely Benson. She’s clearly in very good company!

Style File: Let’s face it, you need pampering

In the bleak midwinter, skin can go a bit haywire and there’s only so much good slathering on an extra thick moisturiser will do. A facial in which a professional will analyse exactly what your skin is crying out for is really worth investing in.

French brand Decléor is renowned for its use of fragrant essential oils and plant extracts that are tailored to your needs after a diagnostic back massage as part of its Aromatic Face Rituals.

Elemis is another brand that can be found in some of the world’s best spas, and its Visible Brilliance facial is perfect for this time of year. Seaham Hall in Co Durham is just one of the spas that uses Elemis products such as Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm in treatments designed to revive dull skin and increase moisture levels.

At Ushvani, a day spa near London’s Sloane Square, guests are encouraged to arrive early to make use of the facilities that include a hydrotherapeutic pool. There are indulgent treatments such as the wonderful Three Oils Ritual that combines deep pressure Balinese massage techniques with reflexology and face and scalp massages using the spa’s own South-east Asian-inspired products.

Nature-inspired treatments and spas have cast off any less than glamorous allusions, thanks in part to Sue Harmsworth, the founder of Espa and her thoroughly contemporary vision. The brand now has spas in 55 countries, with two of its best in the UK to be found at Gleneagles in Scotland and The Grove in Hertfordshire. Treatments that use the brand’s signature hair and scalp mud are the perfect choice at this time of year.

Finally, the Cowshed range has vastly outgrown its roots in Babington House, Somerset, with a Primrose Hill location in London being just the latest addition to a whole host of urban day spas. And those whose purse strings won’t stretch far at the moment will be cheered by its little sister brand Cheeky, offering manicures and hair styling at a surprisingly affordable rate.
